Can you Move?

Figuring out whether you are eligible to migrate to a new country is no mean feat.

So we’ve put together a summary of the main entry options available.

UK ancestry visa

You can apply for a five-year UK ancestry visa if you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

You need to be aged 17 or over, be able and willing to work and support yourself and any dependents without public funds.  If you qualify for an ancestry visa you do not need a work permit and after five years you can apply for permanent residence in the UK.

Highly Skilled Migrant Programme

The HSMP is designed to allow highly skilled people to migrate to the UK to look for work or self-employment opportunities.

It is a points-based immigration scheme. Points are earned on the basis of your qualifications, past earnings, age assessment, UK experience and you also must meet the mandatory English Language requirement.

You can stay for 24 months and can then apply to stay for a further three years.
